And more than that, it was insensitive to make fun of people in a way it would be so easy for others to make fun of me.

I did go to Arts Anonymous, but sort of as a tourist, at a time I was deeply immersed in another program – ACOA in its wild Manhattan version in the eighties. The program that, I think, of all the 12-step programs is most often ridiculed – out of fear, insensitivity or ignorance. The ACOA experience changed my life. A crucial part of the context of that time was that I had been in a seemingly terminal depression that was all mixed up with seemingly unbreakable writers’ block. I came out of the dark time by getting in touch with realities of my own life, not the versions that seemed real but were actually the versions of others. And of course my writing changed direction.

I recognized myself that time I looked into the arts program, for I saw other people trying with courage to break out of their blocks. They seemed to me at the time to be going through what I had been going through most of my life. I was in my 50s then.

Again, I appreciate what you have to say. I would like to hear more about your experience with the block and with the program.Fred Poolehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00000674703611167085noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5254102321511750019.post-26452675859610375472012-04-10T08:37:30.780-05:002012-04-10T08:37:30.780-05:00It is unfortunate that you had such a puzzling exp...It is unfortunate that you had such a puzzling experience in Arts Anonymous.
As the fellowship has strict policies about anonymity, so that people who have apprehension of their self expression, it appears to me that those privacies have been compromised.
It also seems like it is important for you to flaunt your superiority, as you have not had any problem with writing, being blocked, or are accomplished of sorts, thus, I hearvthe tone is to be of mockery and comes off as prideful.
The fellowship was built as a vessel for people to give support, and have a safe place of sharing.
The spirit of the fellowship is that of love, not of one's limited perspective , but a humble commitment to one's unfoldment as a creative, collaborative, contributing human being. The fellowship as a whole has a deep regard for those in life, who have been challenged
due to the trials, tribulations of everyday life.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5254102321511750019.post-16953518403262019992010-10-04T21:23:59.676-05:002010-10-04T21:23:59.676-05:00I was curious as to your thoughts on the last para...I was curious as to your thoughts on the last paragraph you have here. Do you agree with artists having this idea of merely a title or are you implying that you feel most artists are in it merely for a title? I'm curious only because a friend of mine told me about this Arts Anonymous and I decided to research it as I heard this program was good. I came across this page in my Google search and this post made me think considerably. Great job. Please, if you do comment I can be reached at jrfedor@hotmail.com.
